1898
The discovery of a pyrite mine gives the Rigoloccio area its unique identity. The chosen name, “Rigoloccio” — meaning “stream” — celebrates the silent flow of energy through the hills of the Alta Maremma. Even today, beneath the vineyards, the land’s mineral treasures rest, giving the soils structure and depth, and the wines an unmistakable mineral strength.
2002
Ezio Pugelli founded the Poggio al Rigoloccio estate at the foot of Monte Calvo. Nine hectares of vineyards, framed by centuries-old olive groves and cork oaks, became the heart of a bold vision: to blend Bordeaux international varieties with the spirit of the Supertuscans, transforming the Maremma terroir into intense, personal wines.
2017
With the arrival of Carlo Berzano, the estate entered a new chapter. A deep architectural, production, and organizational renewal created a place where tradition, innovation, and meticulous winemaking care come together in harmony.
2025
From 2025, Poggio al Rigoloccio is led by Bruno Moser and Gerhard Sanin. Moser brings a creative, curious approach, always striving for perfection and flavor. Sanin, an experienced winemaker, defines the style of the wines with precision and balance, creating elegant, mineral labels—an authentic reflection of the Alta Maremma terroir.
Today
The estate spans 24 hectares in total—12 hectares under vine, with the remainder divided between olive groves and woodland. A symbol of growth, development, and continuity.
